One of the reasons why we procrastinate today is because we think we have plenty of time. So, we delay on doing something that could have been done the moment we thought of it.
Another reason is that we find our tasks to be boring and tedious though we want to accomplish great things. We want to be this or that but we keep postponing. How do we expect to be a step ahead? How do we expect to be better today than yesterday if the task that was to be done yesterday was carried for the next day? And time passes, we are still at the same spot but we don’t understand why. Big dreams, big goals but a procrastinator!
Here’s how to beat Procrastination
Make it fun: If you’re someone who easily gets bored while completing a task, why don’t you make it a fun task to do? You can listen to music while performing your chores or listen to your favorite podcasts to keep you going. You can also watch your favorite shows as you work. I guarantee you, you won’t even see the time passing and before you notice you will be done. A task completed, a box checked!
Reward yourself: Do not wait until you buy a private jet to celebrate. That is a faux pas you shouldn’t do. Every small win deserves a reward! Rewarding yourself builds a sense of accomplishment and you become more confident. Your self-esteem is boosted as you acknowledge your efforts. You can reward yourself by ordering a dessert or your favorite meal, go to the movie with friends, take a spa day or you can even get a tattoo to remind you of your accomplishments. Rewarding yourself will keep you going and will make you more confident in your journey.
Set deadlines: Like I said earlier, having in our minds that we got plenty of time is one of the main issues. To avoid this to happen again, next time you have a duty, set a deadline. A day, a week, a month depending on how big the task is. Remind yourself that there’s no time because there’s no time. The clock is ticking and your dream life have been knocking.
Forgive yourself: Forgiveness is very important to move forward. If you were one that kept postponing her chores, know a lot of us did too. Do not blame yourself for being lazy or unproductive. If you’re reading this, consider it to now be in the past because you are stepping in to your new era of productivity.
Visualize your dreams: Before you think of pracrastinating again, please picture yourself living your best and luxurious life. What will be on your mind will shout success and therefore will urge you to get your work done Asap. Whatever is on your mind influences how you feel and how you behave, so, fill your mind with positive thoughts and dreams.
Recognize and know why: If you can write down a problem clearly then half of it is already solved. Know why you’re proscrastinating and recognize you are procrastinating. Then find a solution and make it your decision to be better.
Be determined: Fix your eyes on the prize. Ask yourself why do I have to complete my duties? Why is it important? This will help you finish your task because you will now know the purpose of it. Determination will help you place your focus on your goals.
